Opening Night and a preview of today’s games

Last night’s Padres-Dodgers game marked the first day of uninterrupted baseball for the next 106 days until the All Star Break, and Padres outfielder Seth Smith kicked it off with a long, game-tying home run to right field in the eighth inning.

Baseball is back!

Hey everyone! Spring Training is here and we have our first set of games playing today!

So far we have had three home runs hit today. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista launched the first home run of Spring Training with two outs in the top of the first inning against Philadelphia Phillies RHP Roberto Hernandez. Yangervis Solarte, a minor league utility man and recent addition to the New York Yankees system, hit the Yankees’ first home run of Spring Training in the top of the second inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, driving in new Yankee outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Pirates catcher Tony Sanchez hit a three run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the Yankees 5-5.

Check back throughout the day, and throughout the rest of Spring Training for more home run news.

UPDATE: Day 1 of Spring Training is in the books, and we saw six home runs hit to kick off the year. Cincinnati Reds outfielder Chris Heisey hit a two run shot in the top of the seventh inning against the Cleveland Indians, and third baseman Adam Duvall and shortstop Ehire Adrianza both homered in the bottom of the ninth inning for the San Francisco Giants in the 10-5 loss to the Oakland Athletics to close out the day.

Happy New Year! A look back at the 20 longest home runs of 2013.

I found this great video highlight on YouTube the other day. Got some HUGE homers on this.
